Creative and relevant Christian education is a high priority for us at St. Aidan's!
Sunday School During the School Year
During the school year, we offer Sunday morning classes for all ages between our two morning worship services, beginning at 9:30 a.m.
Elementary-age Kids
We have two separate groups for younger kids: (1) Pre-K through Second Grade and (2) Third Grade through Fifth Grade. Both groups build community and grow in faith as they pray, sing, digest Bible stories, work creatively, and think more about the Church and the Christian life. All this takes place in a wonderful, family atmosphere led by loving and dedicated teachers. We are working towards developing a Godly Play curriculum for these age groups for the 2010-11 school year. If you are interested in being part of the process, let us know!
6th through 8th Grade
Rite 13, a Sunday School class for sixth through eighth graders, meets in the Youth Room for snacks, interesting discussions, religious instruction and fun under the enthusiastic leadership of Tobin Bergin-Hill andMatt Irwin. About once a month, this group also meets in the afternoon for fellowship and fun, whether to see a movie or visit a waterpark, or to cook a meal for a family in need.
Adults
Each week, adults meet in White Hall and enjoy Sunday morning forums which relate our Christian faith and history to our lives. Join us for lively discussions, informative and interesting subject matter, and a chance to make new friends.
Nursery
A nursery is available from 9:30 a.m. until noon for children too young to attend Sunday School. Our head nursery caregivers is Sandra Cruz, who works as an assistant in the Fairfax County Public School System. The nursery is located in the "Muscle Room" in White Hall.
Wednesday Evening Short Courses for Adults
During the year, we have a series of three-week courses that include a presentation and discussion. They are designed to give an overview of life in the Church as well as insights into how the Church continues to speak in each new age. They deal with scripture, worship, questions and faith. The courses are kept short so you can choose to participate for a few weeks or a few months. Each class will provide a chance not only to get to know your church better, but also to get to know some of those who share the journey of faith at St. Aidan’s. Classes will generally run from 7:30 to 9:00 P.M.
High School Youth Group
Approximately twice a month (generally the first and third Sundays of the month), the St. Aidan's high school youth group will meet for fun activities and various outreach projects. We have also taken regular mission trips to places like New Orleans for Hurricane Katrina recovery and New York City to work in a soup kitchen.
Our high school youth group meets in conjunction with the high school youth group from Nativity Lutheran Church, just down the street. We meet some weeks at St. Aidan's and some weeks at Nativity and some weeks out and about. Join us whenever you can!
Coming soon:
Over the long Martin Luther King, Jr. weekend, high schoolers and adult chaperones are invited to a mission trip in Washington, D.C. Our trip is through the Steinbruck Center for Urban Studies, an interfaith ministry of justice, hospitality and learning. We will do volunteer work and have opportunities to meet homeless people and learn about homelessness in our own backyard.
